Barn Owl Farm
Barn owl Farm (Self Catering)
Barn Owl Farm is situated off the R62, about 15km from Ladismith in the Klein Karoo. Come for a weekend break and you will find plenty to do without having to even move off the farm. Summer is the time for swimming, canoeing or fishing in the dam down the road.
The cooler months are perfect for exploring the veld on foot or on your mountain bike. Keep a look out for buck, hare and a large variety of bird life including the barn owls, frequent visitors after which the farm is named.
A longer stay will give you time to relax, enjoy the peace of the farm and perhaps head out on some day trips. Head into Ladismith via the scenic Dwarsrivier road stopping at Mymering to do some wine tasting. Seweweekspoort, with its folded orange rock faces towering above the road is just 30km on from Ladismith and well worth it. Port tasting in Calitzdorp and even the Cango Caves in Oudtshoorn are within reach for longer days out.
Then return to Barn Owl Farm, soak off the dust of your travels and enjoy the spectacular star filled night far from the city lights.
Tranquil Klein Karoo Accommodation
The Barn
The Barn has been creatively restored giving it authentic charm and a peaceful atmosphere. The main bedroom sleeps two in a double bed. The lounge has a second double bed and the dining area also houses a set of bunk beds. The lounge has comfy furniture grouped near a large fireplace – a great spot for a chilly winter evening. Subdued solar lighting adds to the ambiance of the room. The bathroom has a lovely Victorian style bath and a spacious shower. The kitchen area is well equipped and has a microwave and gas hob. The stoep is just made for relaxing and soaking up the late afternoon sun as you light the fire and get the braai on the go.
Rates
This year all income generated by The Barn will be donated to four NPO’s, one per season. This spring the NPO that we are supporting is Nelsview Integrated Community Project (NICPRO) . This is a local NPO that is a family and community driven project on Nelsview farm. They are a developing community aimed at providing a nurturing space where disadvantaged children and their parents can learn, grow and receive valuable social services.
Currently NICPRO run a successful after-care programme for the children and skills training (sewing, cooking, jam-making etc.) for the ladies. They also offer social skills training, health forums and various workshops addressing alcohol abuse, domestic violence and financial planning.
By choosing to stay with us you will give yourself a well earned break while supporting a worthy cause.
