Die Gat Guest House and Wedding Venue

Guest House or Bed & Breakfast (B&B) accommodation and wedding venue on a farm near De Rust. A small town in the Klein Karoo between the Swartberg and Kammanassie mountains. This farm has been in the Schoeman family since the early 1800s and the farmstead has become a national monument. It has been used in many a South African film.

The old school, the wine-press and even an ox wagon were revamped and suitably furnished to serve as unique and beautifully decorated guest rooms. It is so peaceful and quiet out there under the wide heaven and bright starts that you will enjoy a restful sleep. And wake up to the birdsong and normal farm related sounds and smells.

Accommodation at Die Gat Guest House

There are 5 double en-suite rooms in the guest house. All the rooms are air-conditioned, has tea and coffee making facilities as well as complimentary sweet wine to welcome you. Bedding as well as soft towels are included. Some rooms have double bed while others have twin beds.

One of the rooms used to be an ox wagon and is now suitably furnished to give you the experience of the outdoors. It has an en-suite bathroom, twin beds, two armchairs as well as bedding and towels. A truly unique experience to sleep there.

The cottage was refurbished and can be used as a Honeymoon suite fit for a princess. It consists of a bedroom/lounge area, a dressing room, en-suite bathroom with shower as well as a Jacuzzi or spa bath and toilet. There is also a fire-place and sherry for those cold winter nights. This room also has a queen-size bed, hair dryer, soaps, bedding, soft towels as well as a tea and coffee tray. The price of course includes breakfast.

Wedding Venue at Die Gat Guest House

The wedding venue offers small and intimate receptions and can accommodate up to 25 guests. They also decorate the garden with candles if it will enhance the theme. The hosts prepare the food which consists of traditional South African food. Attention to detail is very important to them to make your day special.

Moreover, they bride and her groom can spend their first night in the privacy of the beautifully decorated luxurious honeymoon suite.

Activities and Attractions On and Around Die Gat Guest Farm

• Open land Rover safaris with a braai in the veld.
• Mampoer or Witblits tasting.
• Meiringspoort, a passageway of sandstone cliffs through the Swartberg Mountain Range with its unbelievable plant diversity. You might spot various bird species, rock rabbits, (dassies) or even a male baboon sitting sentinel while his baboon family are fooling around. Stop about halfway through and observe the impressive waterfall water dropping some 60 m into a deep pool. Notice the numerous times you cross the stream which can cause havoc on this road after good rain.
• Herrie se klip in Meiringspoort, a national monument at the spot where CJ Langenhoven, Afrikaans author, loved to relax and write.

Die Gat Gastehuis en Trou-Venue

Bed en Ontbyt (B&O) of gastehuis verblyf en bruilof-venue op ‘n plaas naby De Rust, ‘n klein dorpie in die Klein Karoo. Die plaas is reeds sedert die vroeë 1800’s in die besit van die Schoemanfamilie. Die ou skoolgebou, die wynpars en ‘n ou ossewa is opgeknap en gerieflik ingerig en gemeubileer as unieke gastekamers. Hier in die stilte van ‘n Karooplaas sal jy waarlik vas en rustig kan slaap.

Die Bruilof-venue bied klein intieme onthale van tot 25 gaste. Die gasheer en gasvrou berei die kos voor wat bestaan uit tradisionele ‘boerekos’.

Akkommodasie by Die Gat Gastehuis

Daar is 5 dubbel en-suite kamers in die gastehuis. Al die kamers het lugversorging, tee- en koffiemaak geriewe en so ook komplimentêre soetwyn om jou te verwelkom. Beddegoed, handdoeke en so ook seep word voorsien. Party kamers het dubbelbeddens, terwyl ander twee enkelbeddens het.

Een van die kamers was ‘n ou ossewa en is nou ingerig met ‘n badkamer, 2 enkelbeddens, twee leunstoele, beddegoed, handdoeke en seep. ‘n Ware belewenis om hier te slaap.

Die Kothuis is opgeknap en kan benut word as wittebroodsuite goed genoeg vir ‘n prinses. Dit het ‘n slaapkamer/sitkamer gedeelte, ‘n en-suite badkamer met ‘n stort en spa-bad. So ook ‘n kaggel en sjerrie vir daardie koue wintersnagte. Daar is ‘n koningingrootte bed, haardroër, seep, beddegoed, sagte handdoeke en so ook ‘n skinkbord met tee en koffie. Ontbyt is by die prys ingesluit.
