Where in Stilbaai is East Side Surf School?
The booking office is next to Anchor Restaurant at the Still Bay harbour. Meet the friendly people of East Side Surf School and also find out all you need to know. You will be impressed with the vision these people have for the school.
The surf lessons take place at Lappiesbaai beach on the eastern side of the Goukou River. Amateur surfers favour Lappiesbaai where the breakers are softer.
More advanced surfers find the waves at the rocky Morris Point just past the Still Bay harbour pretty exciting. (By the way, Stilbaai’s waves are known among surfers as some of the best to ride – one of Stilbaai’s hidden gems!)
Along the rocky coast at Jongensfontein (about 10 km away) at times the rough waves are so spectacular that only the surfer pros dare to ride them.
So, book your first lesson now, practice as much as you can and one day you will ride the Jongensfontein waves too!

Who can join the East Side Surf School?
Beginners of all ages are welcome – boys and girls, men and women alike.
Individuals, couples, families, siblings, friends, locals as well as visitors or holiday makers, everyone is equally welcome.
How do the lessons work?
At the time of booking, confirm with them where you should meet them for the lesson.
They offer lessons individually, (one-on-one) or in groups depending on the student. Very young students are never left alone, safety is paramount to them. Only when wind and weather conditions are suitable, do they proceed with coaching.
What do they teach you at the Surf School?
Lappiesbaai is a beginner-friendly beach where the experienced surfers will teach you. The lessons start off on the beach where you will learn and practice the different moves from lying down to standing up.
Before you go near the water, the coach will teach you about ocean and surf safety. Equally important, he will teach you about surfer etiquette and how to behave respectfully towards other surfers.
Once you are ready for the water, he will allow you to try out your newly acquired moves in the shallow water. Let the fun begin!

Neil Marwick. A surfer with five decades behind him of surfing the waves around the globe. Surfing for personal leisure and pleasure while frequently participating in competitions pushing himself beyond his limits.
But Neil is also passionate about sharing his surfing skills and knowledge of the sea. So he taught people, not only how to surf, but also sea sense and surfer etiquette, starting with respect for other surfers. Surfing has indeed become his lifestyle.
