Es La Vida Jongensfontein Holiday Accommodation

Comfortable, luxury self-catering multi-storey holiday house in the incredibly beautiful coastal village of Jongensfontein. Offering accommodation for 6 guests on the middle leve. A mere 9 km from Still Bay in the Hessequa area of the Western Cape along the Garden Route with its unique fynbos. This hidden jewel huddles against the steep terrace-like hillsides above the rocky shores typical of this part of the coast. A fisherman’s paradise and surfer’s heaven offering the inhabitants the most spectacular views of the sea and the waves breaking on the rocks.

During the winter months in South Africa, June to October, you can also see the Southern Right Whales romping in these waters. This holiday rental has a huge deck from where you can watch these majestic mammals. At night one falls asleep listening to the song of the sea and in the morning one wakes up sensing the mood of the ocean by its sound.

The name of the house tells you this ‘is life’ – a perfect description in fact of the Jongensfontein experience. Once you’ve been there, you always come back. Within brisk walking distance from the sea as well as the shops.

About the House Called Es La Vida

This wood clad house is built on a hill slope on three levels. The three garages form the bottom level, on top of which a huge porch/wooden deck is built. Half of this porch on the middle level is under the cover of the wooden deck/balcony on the top level. There are two four-seat picnic tables on this porch. Holiday makers rent the complete middle level only, because the owners occupy the top level themselves.

You can approach the back of the house from Noorkapper Street, and the front of the house from Main Street. There is an uncovered parking space on the Noorkapper Street side for unloading, as well as one garage to the disposal of the guests. The entrance to the garage is from Main Street by way of a steep driveway to the garage door. The entrance to the middle level, which forms the rented part of the house, is on the side of the house. Simply follow the pathway from the street (Noorkapper) and take the wooden stairway to the right winding down to the middle level. Walk past the braai area and there you will see the door next to the chimney.

You can reach the large deck on the rented level from the inside of the house as well as by a set of wooden steps from the backyard. These steps link up with a set of solid stairs with handrails on both sides winding from the garage area, or bottom level.

Accommodation at Es La Vida Jongensfontein

The easiest entry to the house if you have luggage or shopping bags, would be from Noorkapper Street. This door opens into the kitchen area of the open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area which is fully equipped for self-catering. Equipment such as a gas stove and oven, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, pots and pans, crockery, cutlery, glasses, etc. Es la Vida also offers filtered water for drinking purposes.

The lounge/dining area comes with comfortable easy chairs, couches, a dining table and chairs as well as a flat screen TV. The walls are clad with knotty pine and there is a huge built-in braai with braai accessories. This room opens onto the huge balcony offering splendidly unobstructed views of the sea and surrounding areas.

The main bedroom with en-suite bathroom (shower, toilet and basin) has a double bed and built-in cupboard. The other two bedrooms, each with a double bed and built-in cupboards share a full bathroom with a shower, toilet and basin. They provide linen as well as other bedding, but guests should please bring their own towels.

In the backyard near the braai area is a wash trough as well as an outdoor shower for washing off the seawater and sand. To the other side of the house is a washing line for those wet towels and swimsuits. Other laundry facilities include a washing machine, tumble dryer as well as ironing facilities.

Activities and Attractions in and Around Jongensfontein

Endless opportunities for nature lovers such as hiking trails, cycling, bird watching, dolphin watching and whale watching during the season (June to November)
Water activities such as rock fishing, deep sea fishing, swimming, sunbathing and surfing as well as kayaking. Also scuba diving, sail surfing, stand-up paddling and river cruises on the Goukou River at Still Bay.
Although the beach at Jongensfontein is very rocky (making it a fisherman’s paradise) there is a lovely tidal pool where people like to cool off.
You can participate in sport activities like golf, bowls, tennis as well as driving the 4×4 routes with the family.
In addition you can visit the ancient fish traps and other interesting archaeological sites, as well as the daily feeding of the eels in Still Bay.
Furthermore you can enjoy cheese and wine tasting or gin tasting or maybe the many arts and crafts shops.

Die huis is op drie vlakke gebou teen die steil hang van die heuwel. Slegs die middelste vlak en een motorhuis van drie op die onderste vlak word as vakansieverblyf uitverhuur. Die motorhuis kan bereik word vanuit Hoofstraat teen ‘n baie steil oprit op tot bo in die motorhuis. ‘n Massiewe houtdek op die middelvlak is bo-op die motorhuise gebou en dit is gedeeltelik onderdak a.g.v. die oorhang van die balkon op die boonste vlak.

Die maklikste manier om in die huis te kom met bagasie of pakkies, is van Noorkapperstraat se kant af. Daar is ‘n oop geplaveide parkeerplekkie. Volg net die paadjie en gaan al met die houttrappies langs af na die middelvlak, verby die buitebraai en daar sal jy die deur vind langs die skoorsteen.

Jy kan die dek bereik vanuit die huis en so ook met ‘n houttrap aan die buitekant wat oplei na die dek. Hierdie trap sluit aan by nog ‘n stel kronkelende trappe wat van die motorhuis af opgaan na die middeldek en so ook die agterplaas.

Akkommodasie by Es La Vida Jongensfontein

Die deur aan Noorkapperstraat se kant maak oop in die selfsorg-kombuisgedeelte van die oopplan leef/eet/kombuisruimte. Dit is toegerus met implemente soos ‘n gasstoof met oond, yskas/vrieskas en so ook ‘n mikrogolfoond. Ook ‘n ketel, broodrooster, potte en panne, breekgoed, messegoed, glase, gefiltreerde drinkwater, en so meer.

Daar is gemakstoele en banke, ‘n eettafel en stoele en so ook ‘n platskerm TV in die leefarea. Ook ‘n enorme ingeboude braaiplek met braaigereedskap. Hierdie vertrek loop uit op ‘n groot houtdek waarvandaan gaste onbelemmerd na die see kan kyk en die sondelinge sonsondergange kan geniet.

Die hoofslaapkamer het ‘n dubbelbed, ingeboude kaste en so ook ‘n en-suite badkamer met stort, toilet en wasbak. So is daar nog twee kamers met ingeboude kaste wat ‘n tweede badkamer met stort, wasbak en toilet deel. Linne en beddegoed word verskaf, maar gaste moet asseblief hulle eie handdoeke bring.

Naby die buitebraai is ‘n wastrog en so ook ‘n buitestort om die seewater en sand af te spoel. Daar is ook ‘n wasgoeddraad en and wasgeriewe sluit in ‘n wasmasjien, tuimeldroër en strykgeriewe.
