Artists, art lovers, art collectors, art dealers, along with tourists who want to experience true South African spirit, art and culture, make sure you follow the Hessequa Art Route. There is so much creativity and talent in the region, you are bound to find something you want to take home!
About the Hessequa Art Route
Through the years a number of art, heritage and gourmet routes were initiated in different Hessequa towns, only to disappear again after a while. Under the auspices of the various tourism bureaus, organisations or representatives in Hessequa, these efforts have been renewed and currently cooperate under one rainbow, the Hessequa Art Route.
It was officially opened online (because of Covid-19) on 24 June 2021 by Mr Grant Riddles, Executive Mayor of Hessequa Municipality.
Hessequa Municipality is also known as The Explorer’s Garden Route, the name used in tourism marketing. Under the latter name, they support the aim of HSQA Art Route, which is the advancement of art and tourism within the region. Hessequa Art Route organises art exhibitions and art events, not only to empower Hessequa artists, but also to attract tourists and stimulate the local economy.
The towns involved in the Hessequa Art Route are Witsand, Heidelberg, Slangrivier, Riversdale, Melkhoutfontein and Stilbaai, as well as Jongensfontein, Albertinia and Gouritsmond.
Friends of the Art Route Businesses
The list of Friends of the Art Route businesses is steadily growing as more and more businesses become involved, either by delivering services or offering support where they can.
Hessequa Art Route Maps
You can obtain a hard copy of the HSQA Art Route map from the local tourism bureau, organisation, or representative.
The map shows the entire route as well as provides a QR code for each town. Simply scan the QR code for access to the relevant live online map where you will first see a list of the participating artists. You will also see the galleries, studios and exhibition spaces and a list of the Friends of the Art Route businesses. In addition, the online map provides contact information, viewing times, the location of mural art as well spaces created for selfie moments.

Of course HSQA Art Route welcomes any donation, large or small, or anything in-between.

HSQA Art Route uses donations to empower Hessequa artists by

- Organising art events, as well as
- Sharing of skills
Hessequa Kunsroete
Kunstenaars, kunsliefhebbers, kunsversamelaars, kunshandelaars, toeriste en sommer enigeen wat belangstel: kom ontdek ware Suid-Afrikaanse gees, kuns en kultuur langs die Hessequa Kunsroete.
Deur die jare heen was daar verskeie aparte pogings om kuns-, fynproewers- en erfenisroetes op die been te bring, net om so ‘n rukkie later weer te verdwyn. ‘n Nuwe, ernstige begin is nou gemaak onder beskerming van die verskillende toerisme buro’s, -organisasies en -verteenwoordigers in Hessequa. So, die verskillende dorpe werk nou sáám onder een reënboog, Die Hessequa Kunsroete, wat op 24 Junie 2021 amptelik geopen is.
Die Hessequa Kunsroete wil die kunste en toerisme binne die streek bevorder en so ook die plaaslike ekonomie stimuleer.
Donasies is uiteraard altyd welkom en word gebruik om Hessequa-kunstenaars te bemagtig deur:

- Deel van vaardighede
Hessequa Kunsroete-kaart
Gebruik die aanlynkaart en sien die roetes in die verskillende dorpe en sommer ook ‘n boel ander belangrike inligting rakende die roetes. Gebruik gerus die skakels hierbo in die Engelse gedeelte.
Volg hulle op Facebook en ander sosiale media en bly so op hoogte van hulle doene en lates. Maar deel ook jou eie selfies en ervarings met ander op Facebook en Instagram.
Daar is so baie spesiale talent en interessante kreatiwiteit weggesteek in die Hessequa-omgewing. Kom ervaar en geniet dit eerstehands, miskien sien jy daar iets wat jy huis toe wil vat!
