The company started on 1 July 2016 and has since been making beautiful custom bags and other items on order. They only use A grade, hand picked leather as well as high quality brass fittings and zips and waxes string. All their tailor made items are works of art and they use no machines from cutting to stitching.
1716 Leather CO makes perfect birthday gifts such as coin purses with a compartment for cards or handbags from bovine leather, game leather or kudu leather with pig skin linings. Anja also makes custom made items such as knife sheaths or holsters made to the measurements of your knife.
Apart from handbags and laptop bags, examples of items already made by Anja are tablet carriers and cellphone belt pouches, belts, make-up bags, travel bags as well as backpacks. Also knife rolls for chefs in which several knives can be safely stored rolled up and fastened. She also makes patchwork clutch-bags with various leathers and colours.
1716 Leather CO will also give your leather boots an oil treatment so that they look new again and will last longer. They will also recreate an old leather bag to a new one which can serve a new purpose. If you want to personalise an item for a loved one, hand them the name or message in your handwriting and they will ‘engrave’ it on the item.
