Villa Rides Arts – Laetitia Loots Strydom

Laetitia Loots Strydom is not your average, everyday artist. She specialises in doing the unusual and running wild with it. Her original art includes steel art, ornamental home and garden décor, wall features, sculptures, cement art, and much more. She has been doing this since 1998. Laetitia is based in Still Bay, but also has a workshop in Klerksdorp in the North West Province of South Africa. Still Bay is a growing coastal village in the Western Cape Province along the well-known Garden Route.

They exhibited at most of the popular Expo’s such as SARCDA Trade International at Gallagher Estate, Centurion as well as Thabazimbi Wildsfees and Show. Some of their work can be seen at Sable House Country Retreat in Pretoria, artfully weaving steel designs through sable horns or elephant tusks. Also wall art such as the yellow billed horn-bill and the zebra, and more. Their Jackal cement sculpture can be seen at the Jakkalsvlei Winery in Herbertsdale. They work all over the country, even as far as Gaberone in Botswana.

Laetitia creates lovely sculptures of the female figure which catch the eye because of their simplicity and elegant lines. She designs and moulds these figures, then skilfully refines them until they come alive. Furthermore she combines different art mediums to create a fascinating end-result, such as placing sculptures on designer gates. Or loose standing art items involving steel art, sculpture as well as paint techniques.

She uses her own design to create cute resin rabbits (70 mm x 500 mm) in any colour, and each with its own personality.

One needs to see the designer gates and steel art created by this gifted artist. She designs as well as manufactures the decorated gates. Some of her designs need a natural aluminium door which is fabricated by CAT Aluminium & Glass in Still Bay. Once they have done their part, she welds her design into the door.

Apart from designer gates, she also creates unique funky-elegant cast iron chairs complete with delicate upholstered seat and tiny cleverly designed upholstered back. As well as other furniture, of course. Her steel art also includes letter boxes decorated with painted flowers twining round the box. Laetitia loves creating ornamental home décor in the form of interesting wall features an murals made from different material types such as driftwood, cement and paint. She makes use of things the sea brought her to make stunning things such as table décor and wall pieces. Furthermore she produces designer frames for mirrors which changes a mere mirror into a stunning focal point in your home.

Her aesthetic services also include ornamental garden décor such as unique birdbaths and bird feeders. On top of all the wonderful art mentioned above, Laetitia does painting. Not your everyday painting, but huge full wall painting. She will change a dull wall in your house into a window overlooking the sea. The walls and floor of your lapa can be painted with pictures to create a fantasy world, or simply hiding ugly ‘dead’ cement walls and floors.

Examples of such work she has completed, are the way in which she has transformed the looks of the information kiosk and her decoration of the delivery Tuk Tuk of On the Rocks. You need to see the wonderful fantasy world created in the bathrooms of the Pikkewouters Nursery School. Nemo, and friends, Bubbles, the Yellow fish, Squirt, the sea turtle, Pearl, the octopus, Peach, the sea-star swimming all over the walls.

She also decorates ugly, dull cement walls with pictures like electric poles and wires with birds sitting on the wires. Very simple, but tremendously effective. Furthermore she does signage as well as painting house numbers on 20 mm wood sealed with resin.

Haar oorspronklike kunswerke sluit in staalkuns, ornamentele huis- en tuindekor, muurprente (vas aan die muur) beeldhou, sement kuns en so ook verftegnieke. Haar werk staan op verskeie plekke in die land en selfs so ver as Gaberone, Botswana.

Hierdie vrou se unieke idees, kreatiwiteit en energie ken geen perke nie. Sy gaan groot in alles wat sy doen, letterlik, soos om ‘n hele muurtoneel te verf om dooie mure weg te steek. Laetitia maak letterlik van enigiets iets fraais en nuttigs. Sy sal jou tuin vir jou omskep in ‘n towerwêreld. So ook vir jou ontwerperhekke maak en pragtige ontwerpe op jou palisade aanbring.
